We’re throwing this up early because we’re too excited. Our 20 page, one year anniversary, SDBW issue is making its way around town. There’s so many events for SDBW in this one, you’ll want to check this issue out ASAP. If you happen to find yourself it any of our advertisers during beer week because of us, please help us out by saying you heard about their event via West Coaster!
Also be sure to check out our new, improved, expanded map/directory.
If you are reading these words, you’re one of our core readers. Thank you VERY MUCH for reading and supporting us throughout our first year. If you see us running around town during SDBW, please say hello!
Hess Brewing is throwing a candelit costume contest party tonight and they’re looking for the most creative, funny or inspired costume. Last year’s winner shaved his head for the win!
Prizes include 1st – a free purrowler of Pumpkin Stout (which will have its pre-release [1 sixth barrel] tonight at 8pm), 2nd – a free t-shirt/purrowler fill (but not of the new stout), and 3rd – a pint on the house.
A silent auction will also be held for the one and only growler of Anno Anum, Hess’ 1-year anniversary beer. If you are looking for a little pre-Halloween Halloween, this is it. More info here.
As a North Park native and current South Park resident, I really, really like DrinkAbout. It’s a great way to see many spots I don’t get to visit as much as I’d like, such as Live Wire, Small Bar, Blind Lady Ale House, and more. On the grander scheme of things, it’s events like this that make the Uptown neighborhoods such a great place to live. This Sunday, a charity DrinkAbout called BOObies Bus will run from 1PM-5PM along the established route (with new stop Tiger!Tiger!). All of the stops on DrinkAbout route will donate $1 of each pint sold to the Keep-A-Breast foundation. You’ll get to ride on a free bus to some of SD’s hottest beer spots, drink world class brews, and support the fight against breast cancer – tough to beat! For more information, please visit the event’s facebook page. If you’re interested, make sure you are at one of the stops before 1PM (so you can enjoy a beer before you hop on the bus). The ride is free, but the drivers work for tips so leave a few bucks – it’s well worth it.
Also, look for our first anniversary / SDBW / November 2011 issue to hit the streets beginning this Friday.

We at West Coaster want to know what you’ll be up to during San Diego Beer Week.
So, we’ve posted this question on our Facebook page:
“San Diego Beer Week is just 10 short days away! Beer drinkers: What events are you looking forward to? Anything on your ‘can’t miss’ list? (Pssst! Shameless plugs from industry members are welcome/encouraged)”
So far, we’ve gotten some great responses from Chad White over at Sea Rocket Bistro, Abby Heilbron Vacula at AleSmith, Josh Carter from Brew Diego, Randy Clemens from Stone and Ryan Ross from Karl Strauss. Keep ‘em coming!
